Hypervolt App
Frequently asked
Questions
Is the Hypervolt Home a single phase or a three phase charger?
It’s a 7.4kW single phase charger, that runs up to 32 amps, designed for the markets such as the United Kingdom, France, Belgium, the Netherlands, the Republic of Ireland , Australia and New Zealand.
What rate can it charge my car at?
It is a 32A/7.4kW charger but this may vary based on vehicle make and model as well as electrical installation setup. Some EVs can pull more than 7.4kW such as Tesla’s. However you are sure to get at least 7.4kW.
I’m not too sure whether my EV uses a Type 1 or a Type 2 connector.
Not to worry. If your EV’s charging system has 5 holes it uses a Type 1 connector. If it has 7 holes it uses a Type 2 connector. Alternatively, if you are unsure you can notify your EV manufacturer or dealership and they should be able to provide you with the information.
Do I have to have an SPD fitted with my Hypervolt Home?
Since recent regulation changes, it has become optional but in most cases is recommended to fit a SPD (Surge Protection Device) when carrying out electrical maintenance including EV charge point installations. All of our quotes include SPD as standard. You can opt out of this if you wish.
How much power will the charger use when it’s on standby/not charging?
If the LEDs are on 0%, the charger idles at around 0.1kWh consumption. If the LEDs are on 100%, the charger will use 0.2kWh average idle consumption. Alternatively, if you would like to reduce the consumption of the EV charger to 0kWH, it can be turned off from the consumer unit, where it will have a dedicated circuit breaker.
Does the Hypervolt Home 3.0 support V2H charging?
V2G or V2H charging requires a different kind of hardware technology to an AC charger, and it comes at a much higher price premium, with the average product prices at around 8 - 10 times the price of a Hypervolt.
Can I adopt the charger to multiple accounts/use more than one phone?
Hypervolt supports multiple sign in methods. To learn more about this feature, you can read more here: https://support.hypervolt.co.uk/knowledge-base/how-do-i-link-my-accounts
Am I able to set a charge limit on the Hypervolt so it only charges my EV up to a certain percentage?
The Hypervolt is unable to stop supplying power at a certain car battery level as this is controlled by the car. Much like any other 1-phase charger, this is not possible to communicate to the charger as you would require a 3-phase supply and charger. It is likely that there is a setting on your car that manages charging up to a certain battery level.
If I have a Hypervolt and I want to move house can I take it with me?
Yes, if you want to have the charger de-installed you can get your installer to dismount it off the wall and you can package it back up into the box. Afterwards, you can have it reinstalled at your new home.
I have a 2.0 unit and I’m with Octopus, my car isn’t compatible how long will I have to wait?
Unfortunately, we cannot confirm firm timelines for 2.0 units to be compatible with Octopus; full integration will initially be available for the v3 generation. Both teams are working tirelessly to bring this to all customers as soon as possible. That being said, there is an upgrade path for those customers that don’t want to wait: Hypervolt Upgrade Policy.
In the meantime, if you do have a cheaper tariff and you would like to take advantage of this, you can do the following:
- Add your day and night tariffs manually on the Hypervolt app.
- Set your charger to schedule charge when the cheaper rate applies.
I have one plug-in Hybrid and one full EV, can I use Hypervolt home 3 pro/home 3.0 to charge both vehicles?
Yes, you can use Hypervolt Home 3 Pro/home 3.0 to charge both full EV and plug-in Hybrid. You just need to adjust the current from the Hypervolt app to give 3.4 kW output for the plug-in Hybrid, and you can keep the current to max when you will be charging your full EV to get 7 kW output.
In case of any issue with the charger, who do I need to contact, Hypervolt or the installation company?
If you encounter any issues with your charger, we will always recommend customers to reach out to their installers first. Our Technical Support team works 7 days a week, Monday to Friday 8:30 to 8pm, Saturday and Sunday 9am to 6pm. You can contact us on +44 (0)333 090 3093 / support@hypervolt.co.uk. We will make every effort to resolve the problem remotely. If an on-site visit from an engineer is necessary, that will be coordinated by Hypervolt.
Can I swap my charging lead cable on my own?
The charger lead cable should only be replaced by a certified electrician. If you need help finding a trusted Hypervolt installer in your area, we can assist you in connecting with one. DIY work on your Hypervolt device will unfortunately lead to loss of your warranty.
